The OARC DNS testbed is a rack of servers and switches that can be used for simulations and performance testing. The rack contains:
  • dns-tender.dns-oarc.net: the frontend management machine
  • (1) Fast Ethernet switch for management traffic (console on cuad0)
  • (2) D-Link DGS-3024 Gigabit Ethernet switches for data (consoles on cuaU0, cuaU1)
  • (16) HP ProLiant DL140 G3 servers
Each ProLiant DL140 has three NICs:
  • 10.1.0.0/24 for management (hidden from the OS)
  • 10.2.0.0/24 for data (e.g., queries)
  • 10.3.0.0/24 for data (e.g., replies)
The ProLiant DL140 servers each have (2) 2-core 3GHz Xeon processors (4 cores total), 16GB RAM, and (2) 70GB SCSI disks.

IPMI

The 16 ProLiant servers can be managed with IPMI. ipmitool is installed on dns-tender. For example, the following command turns on the first server:
$ ipmitool -I lanplus -A none -H 10.1.0.1 chassis power on

Console Access

The ProLiant servers have an internal console that can be accessed by SSH'ing to the management with username and password admin. After connecting with SSH, press ESC and then 'Q':

To exit the console, enter ESC then '('

Tips for Configuring the BIOS
